Ladies Day 2023

Thirty lady members of the Halifax bowling came together to play in a Ladies Day competition for the Lingard Trophy. The weather was good for the early stages although rather warm. It deteriorated in the afternoon. A supplementary competition for Sutcliffe cup open to all first round losers was held at the same time.

All members helped with the marking, measuring and supporting. There was a lovely feeling of friendship throughout the day.

The ladies who lost in their first round match were entered into the supplementary comp for The Sutcliffe Cup. All players chose to play a second game. The semi finalist who played for The Lingard Trophy were Pauline Breslin and Sandra Cooper, and Faye Curran played Andrea MacHendry.

In the Sutcliffe cup. Bea Grant was the overall winner with Janis Wright the runner up. The supplementary competition was played alongside the main competition. Sandra Cooper was presented with the Lingard cup along with flowers by Margo , the ladies president.

Andrea MacHenry was the runner up.

Bea Grant won the Sutcliffe cup/ and also received flowers and the cup presented by Margo. Janis Wright was the runner up.

An excellent day - good bowling, sporting behaviour was enjoyed by all.

Mary Hanson Ladies Pairs

The Mary Hanson Pairs was held on the 12th June on a glorious sunny day, with 18 entrants. Due to the odd number of pairings this round robin competition was divided into two groups with the winner from each group playing one another in the final. Although one group played 3 games, and the other 4, a similar number of ends was played by each group. Everyone seemed to have an enjoyable day and there were some good results from the matches. The eventual winners of Group A were Kath Webster and Pam Shaw and the winners of Group B were Lynn Wood and Anne Mullaney. The spectators were treated to an enthralling final between these two teams, both sides producing some good bowling, with Kath and Pam proving the eventual winners. The competition was organised by Joyce Asquith and Pauline Ward. The ladies thanked the ladies for a great day.
